The Rhine/Main area consists of the metropolitan area in the south of Hesse as well as parts of the bordering Federal States of Rhineland Palatinate (Rhinish Hesse) as well as Bavaria (Lower Franconia). The area is the second largest of the eleven official European metropolis regions in Germany as well as being one of the most growing areas.
